Anyone have any inexpensive ways to keep 20g tank of 4 goldfish(common, fantail, black moor and ryukin) COOL! I'm new at this and trying to keep my fish healthy of course. I don't want an air conditioner in my home but i don't want to give up my fish. I've heard of people installing fans to blow directly on the water but i don't know how to do this, also, how much would this lower the temp especially in the summer months. temp is currently at 74-76 degrees.

4 fish is really too much for a 20 gallon tank, it's probably good for 1 maybe 2 if you chose a very high maintenance schedule. Also, having a comet in there with the 3 fancies isn't doing a bit of good either, you probably should separate him from the rest.

To your question, some people fill a zip lock bag or two with ice and let the bags float on top of the water to cool it off. They also have those clip-on fans that you can buy from Walmart or something like that that will keep the surface cool.

Thank you for the advice, Dangerdoll. Are you saying my fish have not enough room to grow? I'll work on finding new homes for two of them. I'll definitely get a clip on fan asap.my tank is down to 70 degrees with the fan i'm using now. but its TOO big.

Thanks again.

i'm sure i'll find them at walmart... i'm more worried about my tank being overcrowded now.
