Hi'

I'm new here and my name is Omri.

I'm about to set-up a new aquarium of about 35 gallon. For now I have in a 15 gallon aquarium 3 fish. Tell me if they will be all right together in a new 35gl tank. Here are the species I have:

1. Polypterus senegalus - about 5"
2. Banded Leporinus - about 3"
3. Black Ghost Knifefish - about 3"

Please tell if such species will be all right with each other and what kind of environment will I need for them in the new aquarium. Please also tell me what other fish to add to the aquarium.

Thank you for helping me.

Hi, Omri!

You have those fish in a 15g aquarium? At those sizes?

Okay, here's the scoop: NONE of those fish should go in a 35g tank.

They are all too large right now for a 35g, not to mention that all of them will reach at least a foot in length.

Think, at minimum, 75g tank for those fish. As to whether they will get along, I don't think the banded and the bichir will be a problem. Dunno about the GK.

Try 20" for the knife, and a 250 gallon AT MINNIMUM to properly house it. While highly manuvaerable, they are also relatively slow. Being a skinned fish, injuries come easy and are suseptable to infection. On the other hand they do have large gapping mouths, capable of cousing big damage to tankmates.

Yes they can get that big and should be housed in that large of an aquarium but if you cant or dont want to provide with that much space i say you would be doing fine with a 75 or 90 gallon tank, truth is most of these huge fish end up getting stuck 10-40 gallon tank s with no water changes for life so if you can provide him with a 75,90 or larger tank your already doing better then most people in the world. Also if you do decide to go bigger that tank will probably pretty empty with those 3 fish an dyoull want to buy more but relise how bigger they will get in 6months to a year......good luck
