hi

Got 2male 2female platys, they are currently pregnant (the females of course!) lol i have this 3 gallon bowl, would the babies be ok in there. its near a radiator but it wont be filtered so i will change the water frequently.

is there anything wrong with my plan?

thanks, flag.

Its important that you keep the tank parameters (ammonia, nitrates, nitrites) at a close to zero as possible. Young fry will secume to changes in these parameters and so good filtration is paramount. You'll need a fully cycled tank for this if possible, the 3 gallon tank maybe to raw for your fry. Anyway hope this helps

I'd be careful with near the radiator...The bowl will get very warm when the radiator is on and cool way down when the radiator is off. A bowl this size will heat up & cool down very quickly. These temperature fluctuations would not be good for for the fish. I would at least put an inexpensive heater in there.

You could put the fry in a bowl and float it in the tank you have now. That way the water temp stays the same and you could use the water from the tank for daily changes since you know its filtered and has no ammonia or nitrites. If you own a HOB filter just make sure it can't float under it and push the fry into the main tank.

I use Ice's method for livebearer fry. The only additon is I secure the bowl to the front tank molding for the reason he mentioned and I drop an airstone in the bowl at a low bubble rate to keep the water moving and oxygenated.
