I just got a new chunck of Welaby driftwood. Should I boil it first for about 10 minutes? Or, just soak it in tap (chlorinated) water to make sure there's no comtaminents? I don't want to leech out the softening properties of the wood, or has that already happened somehow? This is hard wood with no soft spots..

Put it in a bucket and let it soak for a few days if the water ain't stained you should be OK, where did you get the driftwood from anyway? I use tap water myself never had any problems.

Ray-Ray,
I got it from a LFS... I hardly ever see this kind of driftwood. It looks very unique and it doesn't require a slate mount to get it stay on the bottom - it's that heavy. If your interested I can get a pic of it before it goes in the tank.

I have many chunks of wellaby in my tanks. I rinse mine to get the dust off, and dump it in. I've never had any problems.

Ok I've seen that! :D Sure, rinse it off and toss it right in! It's safe.

I've purchased some of this in the past, however when I got it home I thought it was fake (man made) so it went in the bucket of unused stuff. now I gotta go dig it out.
