View Full Version : Ruby throated hummingbird pics
I took these while at my Dad's last week. Wondered if anyone would enjoy them. The lighting isn't the greatest, I took them in the evening. When the sun hits them just right.... they catch fire !! Amazing little bird !!

I love it when they have "hummer wars"... So funny to hear them given each other 'heck"... My mom is a natural red head and the hummers literally dive bomb her...it is hilarious to see them fighting around her head :)
nice pics, the one on the top left is the best! the light catches it just right to show it at sunset (or sunrise...) besides, the picture that everyone expects to see isn't necessarily the most interesting!
Humming birds are one of the first things i ever photographed! (and i had the same feeder as your dad at the time too!) so seeing these pictures is really cool for me (even though the memories are about 7or 8 years old, that's a long time for me!)
THANKS FOR SHARING!!!
(PS pixie, that avitar is disturbing in a not so funny kind of way...)

EMG: Those pics are National Geographic worthy... They are really terrific!
LOL Lobo, on your comment concerning MQ's avatar.....
I'm so glad you all are enjoying them ! I truley wish I had been out taking those pics earlier in the day so that their colors showed more....but, either way, they are a LOVELY bird !!
OH ! MQ.......hilarious about you're mom's red hair !!!! Oh to be so encumbered as to have these little beauties fighting over your locks !!!
And I had a friend who constantly worried at night about BATS getting stuck in her hair !!! She had an incredible FRO ! LOL !!

I kinda like them...
That is, whenever I see them they seem to be on a collision course with my face. I don't know what it is but whenever I see one he is heading right for me. I usually duck to get out of the way.

I'd be lying if I said I didn't scream like a girl when it happens.
But...
I wasn't scared.

I like the one in flight. Thank you for sharing!
I miss the hummingbirds. I can't wait to get my petunias and begonias growing out on the porch this summer....that's when they stop by to gorge themselves.

I LOVE hummingbirds!! Whenever we set up our feeder for the summer, I'll stand close to the feeder for a while and they still come right up, its so neat to hear the little wings fluttering!! and I'm a redhead too, wonder if thats why they don't mind my company

Lol Joe, that's because they're all up here in the north !! ...at least in the summertime. Not sure where they go in winter...maybe Mexico/S America  It's amazing just how far those little bitties can travel !
