I've had him for about a year and a half-2 years, hes in a 10g all by himself. The last couple of weeks, his color has faded significantly and he looks almost transparent. When the light hits, I can see the outline of his organs/spine. Has anyone seen this? Is something wrong, or is he just getting old? He has also slowed down quite a bit too. More lounging around than swimming.

I'm sorry. I don't know what to tell you. They only live for 3-4 years and they don't hit some stores until they are already a year old. I had this experience a few months back when one of my gouramis died. Her color washed out of her, she just looked "old." And then she died. What the list told me then is that fish don't "gray" or show age like mammals do. That their colors can and will wash out when they are sick or stressed. I imagine having your body shut down is enough stress to have your colors fade... So sad. I wish I had some sort of advice to give, but I don't. Keep us updated.
Take care,
Mary.

thanks :( ! I just hope if he is on his way out it will happen quickly, I dread having to euthanize the poor guy

I dont know about the color, but I do know that older bettas tend to lounge around much more than the younger ones. Just make sure the water tests are good and keep him as comfy as possible.
