I'm in the planning stages for my new 225 tank. When I had a 125, years ago, I used to have a Yellow Tang, a Kole tang and a Naso Tang in together. They seemed to get along fine, with only minor tension, but, because of personal circumstances, that didn't last but about 5 months before I had to dismantle the tank.
I would like to have a similar group in my new tank. But, I know the popular concensus seems to be that multiple tangs equals trouble.
Has anyone else had experiece keeping multiple tangs in a fairly large tank together over a long term?
I think if you add them together and add them last they should be alright. I thought it was similarily shaped tangs that present the real problems......

I think it'd be OK in a tank that size.

just make sure they all are noticibly diferent (from a fishes point of view)and different sizes. actually in nature tangs are schooling to a point.

i would add them together, imo the yellow is the more aggresive.i had a yellow in my tank for about 4 mos. added a blue hippo, and he bothered the blue for about a week, the aggression then settled down.i added a pebbled butterfly and the yellow picked on it all the time,it eventuallty died.

I had a Kole and a Yellow together. There was a lot of tension between them. The Yellow was first and got really agitated when I added the similarly sized Kole. But, that died down. Afterward though, the Kole would raise holy hell anytime I tried to introduce any other laterally compressed fish of similar size, angels, butterfly's, tangs. I had to take several back after a few days of being pressed into the corner. But, I tried a powder blue tang and that guy hung in there and toughed it out, after a day or two, they were fine. Of course, then the powder blue started harrassing everyone else. . . fish.
But, later, between a sailfin, yellow and naso. . . very little aggression at all.

The recommended way to go about having multiple tangs is 1 genus per tank. So you could do like 1 Naso (Naso sp), 1 Yellow (Zebrasoma sp), and like Achilles (Acanthurus sp) Not saying this is an ideal mix just showing the different genus's per tank. As long as you follow that you will be fine. I used to have my 209g set up and I had and Achilles, Sailfin, and Blue Hippo and they all did fantastic together! Anyway hope this helps and good luck!
