Hi,

Fof the sake of not having to go back to my LFS and ask, I bought this algae eating fish, one with a sucker thing. It looks just like a SAE but is of a uniform kind of light orange/pink colour. i'd show a photo if only he would come out of his little cave. i've tried to find a match on this site's species guide, but had no luck.

regards,
simon

yeah that's exactly what it is, thanks. And now that i've read about them i'm a little depressed. they suck on other fish like angels... they forget about algae once there's other food around....man. i've just set up my aquarium, doing a plant cyle, and thought i'd get something that eats algae (as i've got a bit going after 4 days). but i really wanted to get a nice little wanda, i mean, angelfish.

now i think i'll just go flush my little CAE. just kidding. i love it, it's kinda ugly but makes me laugh the way it moves.

si.

wow, after checking out other threads on the chinese algae eater, i'm not sure why they even sell them, or at least why the guy at LFS said my CAE would get along fine with any other fish. perhaps i should take it back before even getting more fish.

that's your choice, gershwin... however, a lot of people get the two confused, I guess because of the closeness of the name. IMO, I don't think they look very much alike. I'm guessing your LFS in not knowledgable about there being two types, and you may find that a lot... Or he may have known and simply thought of this fish as just an algae eater (which is their common name) and never thought much past it. Thank the stars for the internet, huh...
