I finally fired up the fluval 204 that I had gotten from a friend. No media and just water in the tank. Holy c***! I think I'm in love. I've only had experience with AC's but this fluval looks like it rocks. Last night it was a little noisy as air was being forced out but this morning it was near silent. And the output flow was no where near what I thought it would be ( I assumed a stronger current) I have an AC 50 waiting for my new tank and hadn't really considered the fluval until I saw it in action. On to my real point

What type of media do you fluval owners use? I know the pads go on one side (2 i think or is it 4) but it has 3 trays on the other side. I figured biomax for the top similar to my AC but what do I use for the bottom two? Fluval has that prefilter product that looks awfully similar to biomax. What are my other choices. I'm a little clueless in regards to cannisters so any advice or suggestions would be appreciated.

I recently bought a 404 and the plastic handle that locks the top to the cannister broke immediately. I can still operate the filter but I thought that was kinda cheesey. I also don't like the design with the upright foam blocks because you then have to purchase fluval foam blocks or cut out your own. I prefer media baskets only and I've always been partial to Eheim.

Anyway... For my discus tanks, I place peat inside a tied off section of ladies stocking and run that in one of the baskets. I do the same in my angel tanks also.
