i just madea DIY co2 injector. I was wondering is it a must to remove the co2 piping from the tank at night since i'm afraid of it suffocating my fish since the plants are producing oxygen. Thanks.

I wouldn't disconnected it unless you are experiencing problems with your fish breathing and if the CO2 is high enough to show signs of distress in your fish it probably means that the CO2 is too high during the day too. I wouldn't worry about it.

I thought they absorb CO2 and expel O2 during the day and at night they absorb O2 in while expelling CO2.

That is correct.

Either way is fine, I leave my CO2 on 24/7 without issue simply because I don't own a solenoid. With DIY there is no good way to shut it off at night anyhow, so folks with DIy co2 leave it on all the time. You'll see you pH dip some at night, but as mentioned if your co2 level is high enough at night to cause problems it's probably too high in the daytime as well.

They use CO2 during the day and they use O2 at night.
During the day they give off O2. At night they give off CO2.

Unless you are running rediculously high CO2 levels with DIY, I wouldn't worry about it.

Technically, they age giving off CO2 and using O2 all the time. During the day they use more CO2 than they produce and give off more O2 then they use.

Always the technical one aren't you!!! :p:
