I have a single male Dwarf Gourami in my tank with a school of Harlequin Rasboras and some other fish. I am thinking that the Dwarf Gourami is being shy and hiding because he is alone with several very active fish. Would it be wise to get him a few Dwarf Gourami Friends? I also am thinking adding a few floating plants might help.

How big is the tank? Usually Dwarf males (which is what most LFS only carry)
will pick on eachother until one is dead.

have your LFS order you some females or have a dense planting with tank-height plants. either one should bring your drawf from hiding.

It is a 20 Gal and yes I would be looking to getting maybe 2 females if they have some at the LFS.

I have a dwarf in my tank, hes fairly shy, but not to the point where I think something is wrong with him.

My concern is when he shys away from eating because the Harlequins are very active at feeding time.

I've had 2 male dwart gouramis in a 10g for quite some time now. Got them at the same time, might be fry-mates. Each has his own side of the tank with plants and "fortresses," and they get along pretty well. Harry is more assertive, slightly larger, but they just playfully chase each other--no damage at all. I think it depends on the fish and the environment you provide. Just my two cow patties' worth.

Well something got this guy scared so he would just hide and not eat. But it doesn't matter now because he died yesterday. I think the Rasboras were just too active for him. He got stressed and then just wouldn't eat. I had Dwarf Gouramis before and they never did that but I did have 2 males and 2 females last time I had them. Next time I think I will just have Dwarf Gouramis and some Cory Cats for tank mates.
