Alright, this certainly falls under the no stupid questions category...
Would duct tape be harmful in a community freshwater tank?
Here's why, cause I'm sure you'll ask. I got some cool black plastic tubing for my cory's to hang out in. I didn't want white PVC pipe, and PVC pipe is too thick for the small space i want to cram this pipe in.
The plastic tube is already in there, and they love it, however, I have to put gravel in it so it doesn't float to the top. I would like to tape gravel, or some other weight on the bottom so the tubing will stay on the bottom.
Any suggestions if tape won't work?
Thanks,
CHris

Use silicone.
Silicone the tube, then roll it in the gravel.
Give it at least 24 hours to cure, then your good to go.
You could also use an epoxy.

Since Duct Tape has an extremely strong epoxy on it... I wouldnt use it. Plus the fact that the fish might nip at it... who knows what effect it might have on them. Water also tends to make the duct tape weaker over time.

I would not trust Duct tape in aquarium water.

Why not? I used shredded duct tape as a filter media. I also used it to make some art deco plants, a cool cave, stumps, even a little duct tape ship!! I'm working on a plywood/duct tape tank (150 gallon) after I finish the duct tape canister filter (copy of a Filstar of course!) :D
I know I ripped someone off from the pvc thread a while back, but I still laugh thinking about that!!!
Ha ha! It was jiggerpolebill (PVC and other pipes)!!! I still find that hilarious!!!

Doesn't duct tape loose its stickyness when under water? When i was little i remember duct taping my brothers arm(don't ask, i was little) he couldn't peel it off since it was pulling out all his hair. So my mom said to put his arm in the bath tub and it came right off.
I do use electrical tape on my filter.I taped an extra piece of plastic to make the outflow longer.I use it on all my filters, and it has lasted for about 1 year before i decided to replce it.
I would still recommend using silison and covering it with gravel,it will give you a better look.

It's the adhesive, glue or stickyness that bothers me when introducing it underwater in an aquarium. What makes up the adhesive? Can it be poisonous over time? I question it on being safe in the water.
