I'm trying to build an exterior canister filter. Has anyone ever seen plans for one? I've tried everywhere I can think of but most of what I find are wet/dry marine filter plans. Can anybody help me?

Yeah, I bought mine and assmbled it....It was so hard until I realized it was the Spanish directions.... :p: :laugh:

Its pretty difficult to build them because its so hard to make them watertight and under pressure. I have built a few for my turtles, one out of a 5gal bucket and one out of PVC pipe. The PVC was easier to seal, the only problem is to get watertight joints you need to glue them, and once the media is glued in, you cant clean it out. I was only using lava rock, so I could backflush it, but anything else would be fairly difficult to clean. You're better off building a sump of some sort, or just buying a canister if you're set on having one.

Can you explain what a sump is? I've never come across one before and I do not know how they work.
