Do Corys eat shrimp?

I am new here, so please forgive me if this has been asked before (in which case a pointer to the old thread will do the trick)... but do Cory catfish eat freshwater aquarium shrimp like ghost shrimp or dwarf varieties like Caridina serrata or Bumble Bee shrimp?

I had one and it disappeared shortly after I added my corys. I'd like to get a another, but it is pretty expensive food ..if that is all it will be. If they do eat the shrimp, then I suppose I can't have them, because I can't imagine not have my corys.... they are completely adorable!

What are others experience with this?

Hi there,

I have corys and ghost shrimp and I have never know them to bother with the shrimp. They certainly like "shrimp pellets" but the pellets don't jump away like the ghost shrimp do. : ) Ghost shrimp are very fast movers whenever another fish comes along so I am going to guess that they would never be fair game for the corys. Anyone else?

Yea, I don't think the corys would do anything to them. There scavengers, picking up any flakes/pellets left on the bottom.

They would certainly eat a dead ghost shrimp but wouldn't chase one down and kill it.

I did know that they like brine shrimp which is what made me wonder, but so does just about everything else, right? :)

So it sounds like I could get a ghost shrimp and it would be okay. But would the same hold true for these guys (see link). This is what I had before. Keppt in mind, that they are about 2.5-3.5cm total size.

Nope, cories don't tend to go after any of the inverts. They'll root around, and might inadvertantly injure one, and eat it if it died, but they wouldn't maliciously kill one.

Whoo Pee! I will check all my parameters for thier best fit just to make sure I didn't kill the shrimp myself, and hopefully if all is well get another somewhere down the road.

I just love those little guys!

BTW, shrimps can jump out of the tank if it is not covered propoerly. So search the surroundings too.

No. Cories are pretty peaceful.

Shrimp do tend to disappear for a while when they are molting. I've had four in a tank for over a year now and I hardly ever see more than two at a time.

Heck, I got a single Ghost Shrimp in my Eclipse 3 with my Betta and sometimes I can't find the little guy in there. He blends in very well.
