ive recently been to a fish farm and im wondering, can u use the tanks the use for like koi? the tank would be made up of concrete with a sealer, with a pannel of glass for looking.

if this is ok... we saltwater fans could greatly expant our tank size, with no extracost.

p.s. how many of us paint the back of the tank black?

the concrete would be covered in say, painted silicon, the concrete would be a frame.

Depends on the size of the tank. If you go big then you need to reinforce the concrete. And expect the price to be very high.

It would be heavy, too. I've seen those concrete tanks at the fish hatchery. They were painted inside with epoxy paint.

also, if the concrete is enforced by rebar or metal of any kind, it can drive some fish and inverts crazy. they used to keep sharks in public aquariums with rebar enforced concrete tanks, untill they found out metal ,even through the wall, reacted with something in the sharks brain(im not a scientist!) and makes them go nuts. :duh:

I dont remmeber the web sites but they do have blue prints on how to make one in the basement. My ex girlfreinds had one in her basement and it took up too small rooms. One room was the aquarium, the other room was filled the equipment too take care of it. the room that was made the aquarium was filled upto 3 feet before the ceiling. I dont know too much about it though I was rely youg at the time. hope this helps.
