I have had a reef tank running for about 10weeks now and have been told to watch out for aiptasia i have 30 kilos of live rock and on one of the pieces of rock their are some aiptasia like things but they only come out when the lights are out which i find a bit strange as aiptasia doesn't care if its light or dark. Some are clear and others are brown, Any ideas?

so do you mean that it could be aiptasia?
it is possible. but usualy, even with MH lights, it will be out during the day.
i am guessing it oculd be jewel anenomes.
do you have a pic?

I may be able to take a pic but i will have to wait untill it is dark and then turn off the lights and the flash of off the camera may frighten the fish so i am not sure if that would be a good idea unless you have any other means to do it.

If they are brownish with short tentacles that have round, green tips, then they could be majano anemones. Either way, you should probably try and get rid of them once you comfirm they aren't a polyp of some sort.
