Bottom-heavy betta?

My much-loved and rather elderly betta, Vern, has lately seemed "bottom-heavy" when he swims -- he can swim pretty fast, but he's swimming so that his tail end is much lower than his head is in the water. The rest of the time, he's resting on the bottom of the tank.

Does anyone know what might be going on? Is there anything I can do, or is Vern just showing his age? :(

If he's 2-3 or older i'd say he's showing his age

Yes, he's going on three. Such a NICE fish!
