Eco Complete Question - cloudy water

So I decided to go with Eco-Complete for my 3 gallon Eclipse with a DP.

I'm in the middle of swappig the substrate.

I'm going twith less than 3-inches because the tank is so small.

When I filled the tank with water it is very cloudy.

Do I wait for the cloudyness to go away or do I drain it and fill it with new water?

I read you don't need to rinse this stuff but I want to put the PD back in tonight.
 
N/M I decided to just drain it. Even so when I filled again it was a bit cloudy but not so much as not to release the puffer into his new home.

So Far I really like this stuff.

Another question though, I will probably need to purchase another whole bag to use it correctly in my 10 gallon right? I didn't use that much in the 3 gallon but figure I would need at least 1/2 another bag to fill up my 10g? It will be a while before I put it into my 10g as well so I just rubber banded the bag closed for now, both tanks are established already though so I hope that it does not matter..

at $30 a bag I'm of course hoping you all say "no the rest of your bag should be enough for the 10g" :P
 
I think it will be barely enough. You can make the back area thicker 2 inches, and the slope to the front to about a 1 inch layer. Optimally, you want a 2-3 inch layer all around, but you gotta make do with what you got no? ;)

The rubberband bag will last for a long while..if not indefinately. Just add old filter floss to your tank and your tank is pretty much cycled.

I used a whole bag for my 10gal, and we have more than enough in there IMO. I didn't know it was suposed to cycle the tank for you, I seeded the filter with media when I started the tank. If you have like 2/3 of the bag left it should be enough I would think. I actually rinsed it a few times before adding it to the tank, to get rid of some of the cloudiness, which helped a lot. The tank has been running for about 2 months, and it still clouds a little during water changes, but not too badly any more.
 
Thanks I'll give it a shot with what I have first then.

Just have to wait till the guppy fry grow up and the females stop having fry! Both tanks were already cycled so I'm not to worried about just changing substrate.

I will have Flourite in 2 tanks and Eco Complete in 2 tanks.

I like the Eco Complete better so far, not that it grows my plants better but I like the way it comes with course and fine in one bag and I like the black look as well. It was also ALOT less work than rinsing the flourite a bazillion times.
