I have a 5 gallon tank that was my fry tank. Well I'm tired of all my guppy and molly fry so I was considering maybe turning it in to a saltwater tank for just a small clown fish. i have a 3 year old that is dying for one of those thanks to finding nemo. So what would I need to do to pull this off. I don't know the first thing about saltwater tanks. could I just add something to the water. Your help is greatly appriciated. Thanks

well, Im to lazy right to tell you anything besides a five gallon is way to small in my opinion for a salt water tank. I might write an article latter for noobs to the saltwater aquarium and I'll give you a link to it if you still want to get into saltwater.

Well, a saltwater tank is far more complicated than a freshwater. You can simply buy saltwater mix and just have a bare tank with a fish in it. But, why would you want to do that?

5g isn't to small for a SW tank. But, it is a lot harder to maintain a smaller tank than larger.

Your best bet is to reasearch SW tanks a little. There are way to many diffrent types of tanks, and ways to set them up to try and tell you now in a simple post.

If you want to do a 5g tank. Look up "Nano" SW tanks and see if that is something you should do.

For a complete noob to fish keeping, a 5g is to small for saltwater. For me a 5g is also to small becuase in three months I'd be upgrading and it would be cheaper to just start with a larger tank.
