Too much filter media?

Is it possible to have too much media in one filter? I just got some foam for one of my filters and am thinking of putting some in all my filters. If for nothing else, to have a bacterial colony ready to go for any new tanks. Its Fluval brand block-foam, the small size, if it matters.

it's too much media if you can't close the filter...

but I don't use carbon in my filters I repalced the carbon with an extra foam pad..

I also added foam to the uptake tube ..

Was thinking about foam on the uptake tube - DO you prefer that to adding stuff inside the filter itself?
