My Guppy looks Bloated, I think it may be constipated. He seems to just be sitting at the top of the tank and his anal fin is pointed straight down. Looks like it is going to pop.

This has been a very healthy fish for some time now so I would like to help him in any way possible.

He is also the father to all my other beautiful guppys

he managed to potty but still look bloated and is still staying at the top of the tank :(

I put in some pimafix I don't think it will help though.

Is there anything I can use to help him that won't stress my other fish? I could setup a Q-tank but I don't want to stress him.

He can still swim and move like normal but is spending his whole days at the top of the tank.

What could cause him to get dropsy and what can I do to help him through it?

I don't really know much about it ... I've never experienced it myself.
I know that if it gets to the point where their bodies are bloated they are probably good as gone anyways.

It's an internal bacteria I think.
I think, too, it might be from ammonia poisoning >.>

Not sure this is what he has then, Tanks levels are all 0 - 0 - But Nitrate was 20ppm the other day (reading 0 today...) had to dose some more KN03.

He is also the only fish looking sick, No signs of anything on his gills or loss of color. Just not moving around much and he looks a bit fat. hmm take that back one of my Oto's looks bloated as well, but he was involved in a snail incident (Crushed by snails trapdoor), so I don't know if that fish is going to make it either, it is likely that one has internal infection...

I have some aquarium salt I could add. Would that help? I'm all out of Pimafix.

I'm going to add 2 TBS of aquarium salt tonight I guess so as not to affect mystery snails too much (20 gallon tank)

Diagnosis, One of these situations may be the culprit:
  • Accute Dropsy: Sudden swelling: A bacterial infection will cause internal bleeding.
  • Chronic Dropsy: Slow swelling: Growing tumors, or even parasites, in the fish may cause it to swell.
  • Chronic Dropsy: Slow swelling: Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Highly contageous!
  • Other unknown causes, such as a virus, or permanent damage to the fish's internal organs. Damage to kidneys can occur due to over-use of medication or use of too strong of medication.

There is something else going on with your fish and usually can not be treated once is shows.

Well I will add another 2 TSB of salt tomarrow and call it treated, and continue with my normal water changes after this.

It is one tuff guppy, he was once caught in some live plants for over 2 weeks. I thought it must have died, then one day when I was moving some stuff around he poped out still very much alive and recovered the rest of the way within 2 days...

Guess I will just hope for the best.

salt will do nothing for this fish. This is an internal organ problem not an external one. Salt does nothing at this point for your fish.
