Glass Splinters?

Hey guys, I could really use some help with this one. I bought some live rock about 3 months ago and ever since I’ve had small fiberglass like structures covering everything from filter parts to the glass and the rock itself. I go to clean the filter or rearrange my rock and I end up with tens of little class like splinters in my hand and it really hurts! Is this some sort of parasite that came in off my live rock? I’ve never seen anything like this and its getter worse. Any ideas of what this might be or how to get rid of it? Thanks

Spicules! It's a type of sponge--those little glass splinters are produced by a sponge. I don't know of an effective way to remove it, though--sponges are pretty resilient. But, knowing what it is, you might be able to search for something that will help--sorry I can't offer more advice.
