snail questions

I'm just getting back into freshwater after years, Have been doing saltwater reef for over 5 years now but haven't had a freshwater tank in atleast 10 years, I bought some live plants to go in my little tank and a few days later i noticed the tiny snails, their shape resembles a marine dove snail and they are less than a quarter of an inch long, The shell is a transparent brown. I'm assuming they are probably bad to have with my plants but Don't want to get rid of them if I don't have too. I'm going to try to get some pics asap, Or does anyone know where I can find a website or book that is a good id guide for freshwater inverts????

They are just common pond snails, nothing to worry about if you don't mind them. If they don't bother you then I'd leave them be. They do help with some algae and are good about eating dead plant matter. Some people don't like them and go to great lengths to eradicate the little guys. The best way to do that if you don’t want them is to buy fish that eat them, like loaches. Personally I can’t seem to keep enough of them in my tanks. I have Dwarf Puffers that eat them so I actually wish I had more than I do. I have to go to the LFS and pull them out of the plant tanks to keep up with the supply and demand… :rolleyes:
 
cool, Thank you, I'm just used to hitchhikers in marine stuff that can sometimes be good but are usually very bad, I saw them munching the algea on the glass so I hoped maybe they were goo
