Hey I am new at owning a brackish water tank I need help and if you know were I can find directions on how much salt I neet for a fifty five gallon..

Welcome to Aquaria Central! The best way is to buy a hydrometer and test the specific gravity. It also highly depends on the species being kept. What species do you intend to keep? The normal range is somewhere between 1.008 and 1.012. Anyway hope this helps and good luck! Again, Welcome to Aquaria Central!

Just throw in 10 lightly salted peanuts into the water. The peanuts slowly release the needed sodium and plus your fish get a healthy snack. I wouldn't use beer nuts.

Any truth to this? I am trying my luck at a brackish tank. Right now I have two Scats (one green and one red) in a 55 - gal tank. The tank had been used as a community tank before we moved. We added a little marine salt and are basicly learning from the LFS.
The goal is to have Scats and different mollies in it. I am open to other suggestions, we might put a puffer in it, but I am not sure.

That was a joke. Scats need high-end BW--specific gravity (measured with a hydrometer) around 1.010-15, when young & closer to marine conditions (1.018-23) when adults. Scats are very messy fish--I wouldn't keep more than 2 in that 55, as they will grow the size of a dinner plate. Weekly 50% water changes are necessary, till you reach marine SG & then you can add live rock & a protein skimmer for better water quality & less water changes.
