I recently got out of my garage a 55 gallon tank that I used as a saltwater aquarium a number of years ago. It now has a lime film across the front that I can't get off. I have tried a razor, a fine steel wool and even vinager and yet it is still there. Any ideas?

My experience with vinegar is that it works, but is slow. Can you lay the tank on it's side and pour in enough vinegar so that it pools on the area in question. If you can and let it soak, it may take a few days, but should help.
Lime Away is an other option, but you will have to clean out your tank very well, as any residue would kill your fish.

Muriatic acid- available at most hardware or home depot type stores. Dilute it well, wear rubber gloves.

Fill tank and add acid- let sit about 15 minutes. Empty- any final deposits should be soft enough to scrape off. If they are not, dab some more acid solution on with sponge or paper towel.

When done be sure to rinse the tank out well as acid left behind will for sure effect pH.
