I looks like a very fuzzy picture of a piece of hornwort.

Or a very skinny piece of a pine tree tip :D

If it's Hornwort, very fast if you have decent light and a good substrate.

Definately hornwort. A very fast growing plant.

I've been a victim (beneficiary??) of how fast it grows. I paid $3 for a clump and now I've got enough to give away to friends.

hornwort is very odd. more often than not, it will take over a tank. but some people, like me, can't grow it at all. its been said that you can take two identical tanks and put hornwort in them, and it will take over one and die in the other.

In my tropical tank, hornwort has grown like a weed. In my goldfish tank, it barely grows due to the greedy mouths constantly nipping at it.

RockabillyChick, I've had the same problem. Hornwort tends to drop needles in my tanks. I've tried it twice. The first time I had it anchored under 28W in a 10gal and the second time I tried floating it under 80W in my 20gal. Both times it turned brown and within days I had a mess of needles to clean up. Subtract lighting from the equation and the only variable left is water chemistry. Some plants are just more tollerant than others. This doesn't mean that Hornwort is a demanding plant but my best guess is that it is susspetible to certain unknown chemicals in certain tap water supplies.

Unfortunately, hornwort has been introduced into some bodies of water in some areas and it's a very troublesome weed that chokes out normal plant growth. I don't believe it's normally a native plant in most parts of North America, but I could be mistaken.
