Hi, I'm new on this forum. I have 1 32G tank and 1 70G tank. the 70 only has 2 kissing gouramis that used to live in the 32 with 5 tetra neons,5 red tetras and 2 sharks.
What would you think of adding 5 angels to the 70 with the gouramis ?
note also the tetras will also be coming in.

thanks

Hi Darli, welcome to aquaria central. You are in the right place to get answers for your fishkeeping.

In my opinion the five angels can live in the seventy gallon by themselves. They can grow quite large and as they mature they become more aggressive and there will be territory issues. You said that you have sharks in your 32. What kind are they? They can also grow very large. You may need to find a bigger home for them too. I'm afraid that the neons will eventually become a snack for the angels and/or the sharks. The neons and the tetras can live peacefully togather without a problem in the 32. I would put the angels in the 70 and the sharks may need to be given a bigger home. Can you get a bigger home for them?

Both the kissing gouramis and the sharks are a result of a BAD pet shop suggestion. I do realise (after purchase  ) both species with grow to 12"....
No, An other tank for the sharks is out of the question, no space.
Originaly the deal was get the 70 and get rid of the 32 ( deal with the hubby) but I'm tring to keep both. :hang:
The other problem I have with the sharks is their need for salty water when they are adults... I don not want to salt up my 70 .... Ihope to keep them as long as I can in the 32... it does 33" wide that might be tight but... It might have to do.
For the angels, with the 2 gouramis, well I am hoping that will work. If not, I'll get more gouramis + the tetras and bring the gangs up... but I have always wanted angels. :o
thanks,

Hi darli, please let us know what kind of sharks you have. You mentioned that the sharks will need salty water when they are adults, this has thrown me for a loop.

Do you mean they would require aquarium salt? if so, i would not call that salty water. Unless the species cant handle it, aquarium Salt will be harmless to any other fish in the tank.

NaCl is not only unnecessary in a freshwater system, but it is harmful long term to freshwater fish. The slat myth runs rampant, but it does not stand up to scrutiny in any Pro salt argument I've heard yet.

It might be worth posting a picture, There are many mis-identified species at LFS's. Irredescent sharks are strictly Freshwater never brackish, additionally they get 30" long, and despite their beauty you'd be better off to sell or give them away while they are still young.
White Tipped sharks/catfish are brackish and will need brackish water as they grow. I do not know much about this species aside from that, and am basing that on the assumption that we are talking about what is commonly called a white tipped or Columbian shark. You might want to browse planetcatfish for more information. it is one of the better sites out there for catfish/ sharks, and has a great picture gallery. I have seen a multitude of mis-marked catfish species in the fish stores over the years. It really sucks that there is so much confusion on species and names.
