This slime grows so fast it's literally before my eyes. It keeps trying to strangle my java moss.

I think I got it when I brought the moss home =(

What can I do to kill the beast ...

I'll siphon it up and lil spots will drop into the substrate then grow literally before my eyes...

Jesus =(

What do you mean by slime? Do you mean algae?

Nothing will eat cyanobacteria. Do a search in the Plants Forum for BGA. There are lots of threads with information on how to deal with it.

Here is how I do it when i get it- and its been a while since the last time:

DAY 1-
1. Vac as much out as you can.
2. Do big wc.
3. Dose with Maracyn (or generic EM).
3. Cover tank to black out (dont use lights.
4. Add good mech media like floss to filter or have hot mag w/ micron on tank (if not a small tank0.

Day 2-
1. Clean/replace mech media in filter.
2. Dose with Maracyn (or generic EM).
3. test for ammonia.

Day 3-
1. Clean/replace mech media in filter.
2. Vac tank as part of 25% wc.
3. Add new carbon to filter to pull meds.
4. test for ammonia.
5. Remove tank covering and allow light in again.

You are testuing for ammonia to make sure the dead bacteria isnt causing a problem. Hopefully the vacuuming etc will prevent this
