My pet betta just died recently and I want to get a new fish. I have a 5 gallon tank. I don't know what kind of fish to get. I want fish that are hardy and don't die very easily. Should I stick with a betta or get different fish? If so, what kind and how many? Thanks for the help.

well, do you know the basics of keeping an aquarium (water changes, not buying fish that grow to big, varying diet, filtration, ect.)?

If so than most freshwater fish can be kept with not to much more work than the other fish (eg. angels are'nt really much harder to keep in a given body of water than your betta would). all you need to do for most fish is make sure your water is of a certain quality and stability (messing with the PH for most species will usually do more harm than good).

for fish, maybe about 6 neons? or another betta? or any other fish here that does'nt get much bigger than 3cm, but probably no more than 1 species.

Another betta wouldn't be a bad idea, provided you actually liked the first one you had, lol. I *think* you may also be able to have a single dwarf gourami. Additionally, there are some varieties of dwarf livebearers (Least Killie fish, I think they're called) that would probably do well in a five gal, and they're so small that you could actually keep a school of them with little troubles. If you want to try something completely different, you could get a snail or two, or some shrimps, or maybe even an African Dwarf Frog!
