I've been keeping tanks for about 3-4 yrs now. I've got a 55 that I've had for almost all of that time. I spend a fair ammount of time on it, grooming back plants that have got too long, changing water, etc... but I really don't spend a lot of time just sitting back and looking at it. I was putting my shoes on to leave the other day and looked up at the tank from across the room. It was almost surreal how impressive it looked to me. I ooh and ahh over the tanks I see at the LFS all the time and I'm always impressed with how they look, but I never really noticed how impressive mine can be and how it looks just as good when you look at it up close. Anyone else ever have any of these, "****, that looks impressive" moments w/their own tanks?

im impressed by how strong those little plants are.
like those plants shoots come out when the mother plant is like opposite side of the tank.

I didn't realize how nice one of my tanks looked either until my son took a picture of it with his new camera. My response was "That's my tank!". Definetly a wow moment for me.

Yeah, until I actually sat back and looked at it, I didn't realize just how good it looks. I guess I spend so much time inside the tank and just outside of it that I never took time to step back and just look at it like I would if it was a strangers tank. My tank is half planted and half plastic and honestly I don't think you can really tell the difference unless you get up close. Even then I think it's a tough call.

It's like a painting. Sometimes you have to simply take a few steps back and look at it with different eyes.

I wouldn't say that I don't take the time to sit back and look at my tanks, but sometimes you simply don't see their beauty anymore, because when YOU look at your own tank you think "I gotta do a water change", or "hm, that darn plant is growing to much, I have to trim it" or "when's that guppy going to have her drop? I bet she'll do it when I'm not looking".

I get my reality check when other people look at my tanks and compliment
me or ask all kinds of questions.

I think my 75g looks pretty good even though it is my first attempt at a large planted tank. I have many "wow" moments because I love spending time every day just gazing into the depths. I park my favorite stuffed chair front and center and focus on a different spot every time. I've always been a 'secret garden' type of girl so that is what I look for - a spot within a tangle of plant roots, for instance, or a tiny little clearing between plants. If I look long enough, a ramshorn snail lumbers across my view or a neon flashes by. I note how a few tiny stones are scattered across the eco-complete. Look how those vals make runners and new tiny plants. Cool! Will I see underground movement from the trumpet snails? Looking at a tank inch by inch is a great way to reconnect with the beauty of this hobby.

Well of Course!

Oh yea, I just had one of those "WOW" moments just 2 days ago when I woke up and realized that 70 ghost shrimps that I had in my 10 G tank were gone!

How do 70 ghost shrimps disappear from a 10 G tank without leaving a trace of their skeleton/shells?

So yea, that was a pretty "WOW" moment for me with my tank.

I always think how delicious my angelfish would look if they were wrapped in a nice burger bun with some HP Sauce and lettuce....

:thm: Man..... do you guys know how to marinate them things?
