As long as you keep up with water changes, it's a lot better.
The thing with the betta flower vase is that most of them come with instructions telling people they don't have to change the water because the plant resupplies it or some non-sense like that.

The way they keep bettas in those tiny cups at the lfs is cruel. The cycle just continues to perpetuate. I wish the lfs were better informed on these beautiful little fish and how to care for them. In a perfect world maybe.

Flag, you mentioned in another of your threads that the angel was going back to the LFS...still have it, against advice or isn't your sig up to date; you must know how to do that since you added the 3 spots to your sig.

dorkfish, unfortunately the "betta in a vase" thing has been going on for quite a number of years now. The instructions also note that you don't have to feed the betta since they will eat the roots; and the biggest oh no of all, there usually is a shallow plastic dish (like a plant pot drainer) which holds the peace plant in place--thus allowing no oxygen into the vase (along with the plant roots). It's an awful thing, but as long as people keep up the supply (weren't you talking about a "betta barracks" for breeding?) then this abuse will not stop.

my grandma had two of those "betta in a vase", really did'nt know any better at the time to advise her to get something better. And, rosita, I'm trying to get a baracks system going for breeding, but my fish are not gonna be sold to anything less than a 2.5g. I've got the space and time to make sure they don't end up in a little bowl or flower vase. ALSO, if the barracks comment was about me putting them in contianers like that, I'm not jarring my fish, no way thats gonna happen, everythings geting divided tanks that are plumbed together, the baracks ?'s were only because of me not knowing what it was.
