hi guys anyone have any idea how long this female guppy has before she pops out her fry she looks pretty big but we bought her like it so not sure how far along she is thanks smoggy
pretty hard to tell from the photo but doesn't look all that fat. are you wanting to keep the fry? If so, go find yourself a penn-plax aqua-nursery. they run off air-power and are excellent for this type of livebearer. The mother goes into the main container which has a "funnel" at the bottom of the container and then a hose that attatches to a separate container where an airline is connected and creates a suction just like a sponge filter works. When the fry are born, they are sucked down through the funnel, through the hose and safely into the separate container..
I have Limia Vittata (which is similar to a molly) that I had only had maybe 8 fry survive from a brood. My first try with the aqua-nursery I had over 20 fry in the little side container and no one was harmed.
you can still feed her in the container until she gives birth. I think the gestation period for guppies is around 24 days (not positive on that) and it's hard to tell how far along they are because it depends a lot on how many broods she's had and how many eggs were fertilized. If this is the first brood, it may not be very large where if she's had several already, she might look like she's going to explode before giving birth. Kyle
