55 gallon stocking

right now I have jewel cichlids (hemichromis guttatus) and convicts in a 29. the convicts are beating eachother up as usual but the breeding pair of jewels are doing great and the convicts seem to respect them because I have yet to find a nipped fin on them. I would think similary sized and tempered fish would be fine. If and when they decide to breed is when the general rules get thrown out the window. territories, decorations and fake plants will help with whatever combination you end up with... Kyle

an oscar worked good for me with 2 convicts

I have tried Convicts with an oscar and the oscar got beaten up really bad and he was big, he kept on going over to the Convicts as Oscars always what to know what is happening so i had to remove the convicts, i wouldnt recommend them together unless its a really big tank and you only have 1 or 2 convicts in there, i think the oscar kept on going over there as he thought it was food.

so no dont put them together try a severum or tinfoil barbs or even silver dollers they worked fine with my convicts but mine is a 6foot tank.

hope this is some useful info for you

To Dorkfish,

I know it seems like a question that whom -ever is asking should be able to just look it up for themselves and therefore they are just being lazy.

But thats not the case. I tried asking the same question myself, hoping for some help. I was pretty much told the same thing.

Well I have been researching and researching...result...more confused then ever. My tank...empty (except for pleco) for the past 4 months.

You have african, american, central. You have dwarf, shell dwellers, mildly aggressive, aggressive, and lethal (LOL), even under (lets say) african you have to figure out which are compatible w/eachother. You have to look for color, species and size otherwise they will either kill eachother or mate w/another species. You also have dif. water parameters. There are so many different types of cichlids that it is not quite as easy for a beginner to figure it all out on their own.

In other words its quite hard for a beginner and we are not trying to be lazy we are just trying to do it right. We are not trying to be lazy but hoping to get advise from those who have the experience and knowledge. We are not trying to be lazy but become pupils to those who want to help and teach us to better select and care for our fish.

:bowing: to more experienced and knowledgable fish keepers

and all i said was that it probably won't work for him since he only has a 55 gal, i dont see y u r taking this personally so rant all u want, all i can remember is that he MENTIONED 55 gal so suggestions should be in reference to what he said... i never said anything against you but if u want to take it personally then feel free.. btw u want me to reply to ur pm too?

call me names if u like.. i really don't care

EDIT : besides, why r u talking about what tankmates he could have and not consider the size of his tank when what he was asking was for STOCKING OPTIONS FOR 55 GAL WHICH MEANS U HAVE TO CONSIDER THE SIZE OF HIS TANK BEFORE GIVING ANY SUGGESTIONS...

btw, u call me an idiot? no comment lol
