melting in Houston, TX
I have what seems to be algae in my gravel vac, from not letting it dry properly between uses. Its dark (black? green?) and mottled, appears in various places through the length of the flexible hose. I know better now and am hanging it after using it, but what can I do to get that gunk out? Should I even bother, is it dangerous?

I'd guess mildew, it loves that kind of place, very very wet but not underwater, with random minerals all over it.

I have no idea whether mildew is toxic or not, though must humans are allergic to it.

For cleaning, you could try boiling it if you have a large enough pot, filling the tube with hydrogen peroxide and letting it sit in there, then flushing with hot water comes to mind.

I stretched mine out in a loop on the floor, bringing both ends up to the sink. Using a pitcher with hot water and bleach, I poured it into one end, and kept doing it until it was full(50 ft python hose). Let it soak until I could see it gone, then rinsed it free.

Thanks, I'll try this tonight!
