hi well i am new to all this i have i 80g tank and its my first 1, i have only cold water fish lo alot of my friends have made me have seconed thoughts about haveing cold water that i should of went for tropical fish as its more fun and choice. is it alot of hard work with tropical or have i done wright with cold water. :hang:

There is a much bigger variety of tropicals out there. They do often need slightly more care (depends which type you get, and what type of coldwater you are weighing them up against). A weekly water change (with gravel vac), monthly filter change and often monitoring of water ph/amonia/nitrite/nitrate levels are the most necesairy. However you should also perform these things on your coldwater tanks so...

oh and you obviously need to keep temperature at the correct level. (for tropical)

What kinds of fish do you now have? Filter? How long have you had the tank set up? Let us know details and people here can give you more info than you want, probably!

Hi debbie79 and welcome :)

Sounds like you bought your fish already, so why question things? Enjoy them!

Coldwater fish are cool too (no pun intended), they're usually easy care, and you don't have to worry about diddling around with aquarium heaters.

There is no 'right' and 'wrong' fish, so don't worry about what others are saying or doing. That said, you should know that coldwater fish are VERY popular-- we even have a separate section for them (see forum called General Coldwater).

P.S. Do you know about "cycling" an aquarium? Both tropical and coldwater tanks need to go though this process. If you're new, you probably need to learn how to set up a new tank so that the fish waste doesn't build up in your tank and kill your pets. Here's a link and don't be shy about asking questions.
