I just bought a beautiful, cute, and young Blood Parrot last night and I'm glad I did. Tons of research later I have a new friend living with me. All the parameters in the water as well as the correct temp (78) and filteration have been taken care of.

Now... food. I'm trying the mini granules I feed my African. These granules (TetraCichlid brand) are about the size of tropical fish pellets and my Parrot has no problem going to the surface or digging them up. He's about 3.5 inches tops, so I'm feeding him what I would feed two of my small Africans. That is- two nice pinches. Will this suffice or should I get larger pellets for "Tiger"?

i dont quite understand it your post is very confusing  but if the parot cant eat the pellets cause theyre to big get flakes, if there to small get bigger size pelets. if ihes having problems with going to the top and eating them then tough when hes hungry hell have to go up to eat.

Haha. Well this guy has more intelligence than alot of people I've come across today at work (yes I really do hate my job) so I'm sure he'll have no problems dealing with floating food. I did get Wardley's Premium MEDIUM sized pellets for him. Thank you- I'll see how this pans out.

Hikari Cichlid Gold.It comes in 3 sizes, small, medium and large.

It is all I have been feeding my Cichlids for 2 years now, besides occasional live food.

The pellets are good, but all your fish need/should have something other than prepared foods in thier diet. Personally, other than prepared foods, usually about once a week, I feed one of the below to my freshwater fishes:
  • lettuce
  • cucumber
  • table shrimp
  • brine shrimp

The reason for this is simple, fish will never see flake or pellet food in the wild, so flakes and pellets make a very unatural diet and I really look down on people who chose to feed flake or pellets to wild caught fish. Fortuenetly, almost all freshwater fish available at the fish or pet store are tank bred, and have'nt seen the wild or wild diet for generations(how many is unkown to me, but it's a substantial number for most fish), so flake or pellet food is'nt to out of the ordinary and is fine by me for these fish. however, no matter how good this food is, it still is'nt the best, so you need to suplement the diet with fresh foods.
