my angels today i noticed they are getting aggressive toward each other. they are about 3-4 inches and they are nipping fins, and i saw 2 going at it and nick some scales off each other. i havea german ram in the tank that is the dominant fish but still half the size of these guys. theyre just goin at it with each other all the time.

keep a watchful eye out..you may be getting a breeding pair.

the males will duke it out..and they can get violent..the females can also be violent.
angels have been listed as community fish..and some say mildly aggressive..

if you get a spawning pair..mildly agressive is an understatement...

if you get a pair you will need to remove the other angels unless you have a big tank..I have two spawning pair in a 55..that's all that's in this tank.

Yeah it sounds like they are pairing up for you. i had 6 angels in my 150 and i ended up with two pairs and one of the pairs ended up killing one of the other angels just buy always picking on him. I should have moved him but didn't have a tank to put him in at the time.

how can you tell the difference between male and female?
two of them look identical - ones a tiny bit bigger, and the other looks like it may be a veil tail, maybe not.

Even experienced eyes have trouble with that, but the angels can tell. Observation should tell you if a pair has formed — they will spend a lot of time together. They'll also be mildly aggressive with each other, but each will be quick to come to the aid of the other if any other angel picks a fight.

angels are difficult to sex until they spawn.
at that point you can see the difference in the ovipositors..the female has a large one the males is thin.
even the mating ritual is weird..females will sometimes try to mate with other females..
