Just a quick one - I am always seeing protien skimmers in my LFS and i know that they are always marketed towards marine setups. Would there be any advantage in me buying a protien skimmer for my brackish tank? Would this help to control algae growth? presumably it cuts down the amount of waste in the water.

The bubbles won't be small enough becuase of PH and salinity, AND, have you looked at the prices on skimmers?

IMO a skimmer is only worth it if your planning on suporting corals, and even then there are other ways that are just as good, but most brackish tanks aren't suporting them so you don't have to worry about that.
