I have read bits and pieces of other threads talking about feeding fish everything from cucumbers to oranges, but haven't found anything that really delves into the topic. I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on what works best for their fish. It would be good to have a guide on what to do and what not to do when feeding your fish produce.

For instance, at my local Petsmart I noticed they had stuck slices of orange in some of the tanks held in place by one of those clips with a suction cup. My fish nibbled at an orange slice that I left floating in the tank, but never really ate that much of it.

I also dropped a slice of cucumber and zucchini in and the next day all that was left was the thin skin.

I have noticed a bit more floating debree with the vegetables as they seem to come apart after being in the water for a while. Does this just mean I should remove the uneaten portions sooner so they don't fall apart as much?

I feed my fish skinned frozen peas and they love it.

I'm assuming you actually skin each pea as I've never heard of skinned peas in the supermarket.

I would think that peas would be a good source of nutrition just based on the rule that darker veggies tend to have more nutritional value than lighter ones like lettuce.

Our fish eat a variety of fruits and veggies....apple, watermelon, strawberries, carrots, zucchini, lettuce, grapes, figs. We'll try them on a small piece & take out what they don't eat or don't like...I would just stay away from gassey veggies like broccoli or cabbage...

Plecos like potatoes. At my lfs, they feed them potato as a major part of their diet, and if you go on all the plecos are eating it. Be careful to research the species of pleco first, though...I tried for ages to get my starcrown pleco to eat cucumber and lettuce but it never did. Then I found out it was carnivorous.

I just squeeze the frozen peas in my fingers to remove the skins and throw them into the tank.

Any vegetable or fruit your fish will eat is good for them (just make sure to rinse them in water like you would if you were eating it, to remove pestisides). Also seafood is benificial as well, but it is wise to feed freshwater fish saltwater fish(and the oppisite for saltwater fish) so as to eliminate the possibility of disease(well by atleast 95%) being introduced.

most omnivore/carnivore plecs love shellfish. You can by shellfish in brine and then rinse them thoroughly before you feed them it.

I go with skinned(yes I skin them myself) peas for the community 55g. And potato slices are a HUGE hit with my apple snails. They will eat an entire slice over night. I have tried zucchini and they really didnt touch it in the 55g, havent tried it in the snail tank yet.

I feed my pleco tank cucumber, zuchini, potato, yams, spinach, and green beans.
