Could any of you guys show me some photos of sand aquariums? or if you have a link to some sand aquarium photos I'd like that too. I'm trying get ideas before I start my own :sim:

i use sand from Lowe's its called desert sand. its supposed to used as soil cover but none of my fish died so i guess its okay

i just suck all the goodies once a week.

Here's my 85 gallon cichlid tank with baged 30 grit sand from OSH(also home depot, lowes, etc) I just hover a syphon over the surface to suck up debri without sucking up sand. Make sure you rinse it realllllllly well before you put it in your tank. that's why I use 30 grit, it's a little cleaner than play sand, so less rinsing. I really love the look of sand and would highly recomend it.

well i dont vaccuum all, only the sand part

nice pics so far, I think I'm gonna go with no plants, I like the clean look.

:hang:

I see a lot of people getting sand from their hardware store, I know it's cheap but is it hard to clean and stuff compared to the sand in the aquarium stores?

If you decide to go plantless you'll need to remember to stir the sand or add MTS or it will form anerobic pockets that if built up and released will kill your fish.

One of my Gourami in the middle, a second one near the Wisteria towards the right of the tank and you can catch a glimpse of my Senegal birchir doing a U turn in the upper right.

I got my sand at Lowes. Its Quickrete Medium Grade. As for which is easier to clean. I'd rather spend time cleaning my sand ar $5 for 50 lbs than aquarium sand which is what $2 a lb? Not to mention aquarium sand is much finer and will compact and float easier.
