My albino cory has been floating upright at the top of my tank for two days now. He seems weak although he did make it back down to the bottom just a few minutes ago and is managing to stay there. He looks aweful. He was being picked on by my red wag platy so I moved the platies out to a different tank. I thought maybe it was just the stress of being picked on but today when I got out a magnifying glass to look at him I see that his skin looks flakey or dry. I can't see any white spots or obvious growths but he is albino so its hard to tell. He has a few very fine red lines on his one side maybe 1 mm long. I thought perhaps these were bites from the platy but I'm not sure. I could have sworn when I looked at him close up a piece of skin floated off him. My LFS recommended Melafix, but I'm wondering if Maracyn II would be better. I don't think he has eaten in two days now so I need quick advice. Has anyone seen anything similar in their cory's?

Well, I treated my sick little albino cory for 3 days with melafix and I nearly lost him. His anal fins were streaked in blood, he was thin and his skin looked dry. At this point, he hadn't eaten in 4 days. As an emergency effort, I did a water change and started him right away on Maracyn II. He is on his 5th day of Maracyn II and he is now swimming around a bit, eating and had a pretty good poop. He looks 100% better. The only thing I notice now is he is having a hard time keeping his tail down. When he sits still on the bottom his tail wants to float up. He seems to stuggle a bit to keep it down so he is flat on the bottom. Any one else experience this?

Yes, just recently my son's tank had a Cory live through a spell where his barbels grew very short and his tail wanted to keep rising on him. He was the only fish of 4 (at the time) in the tank who was affected, but lots of water changes seem to have pepped him up. At the same time I offered some peeled peas so that could have helped as well. I did three >50% WC and he was back to normal.

Thanks, I'll try to peas and see how it goes!
