I'm refinishing my basement and I've always wanted to put a tank in the wall. Well I'm lucky enough to have a 55g sitting around and a wall spot that is under the basement stairs so there will be a fair amount of space to manuever. So far, the hole is cut and the tank is mounted on a stand that lines it up perfectly with the hole.

My question is, since I'm working in the basement anyway, is there something else I should consider that would make it easy to maintain a salt water setup in the future? I'm sure I'm going to put a water line near the back side of the tank but is there anything else to make this easier to maintain down the road?

Just make sure you have room for additions above under and to all sides, mostly below I would say.
 
Since this is the basement, I would be consider the temperature fluctuations into the equation.

I have a pair of tanks inwall. the best advice I can offer is you cant have too much working room. You must have adequate space to remove a filter or to use a net without bumping into something. Next, temp is a consideration. Not maintaining it, but disipating it. Equipment and lights generate a lot of heat as does the tank itself. Inwall that heat will have no place to go. I have a vent above the tank and a small fan to drive air out it.
