i have 16 gold dust mollies in a ten gallon tank with one real plant and a few fake ones. I noticed that when i look up at the top of the water theres a film-like coating, looks sorta like oil in a puddle in a parking lot or something, but with out the pretty colors. Im just wondering if this is a problem, and if so how to treat it. Thanks. :spam:

Often caused by tannins in the water from bogwood. Nothing to worry about usually but keep the filter working well andcreate some surface aggitation. Keep up a weekly waterchange. :)

Are the gold dust mollies babies? You probably don't have enough water surface aggitation and film is collecting on the top. If they are adult mollies then you probably are not changing the water enough. Seeing as that many mollies in a 10g will pollute extreamly fast. You need to do water changes probably every other day. And add a filter to aggitate the surface or a pump and air stone. You kinda have to many fish for that tank. More like 5 mollies would be max for something like that.

there only tiny babies, i dont think there polluting much with there waste.

Sounds like you don't have enough surface aggitation then.
