I am setting up a new planted tank (54gal bowfront corner tank) and need help. I have never done a planted tank before. I will be keeping german rams, angelfish, and cory cats. I have an eheim ecco filter in place, and a twin tube strip light. What types of plants should i get and how do i clean them so as not to introduce snails disease etc,.

The kinds of plants will be determined by the lighting you have, how many watts are the bulbs in the lightstrip?

To clean plants, use a 5% bleach solution and soak the plants (leaving out the roots) in it for a couple of minutes. Then rinse the plant off using water with dechlorinator in it.

A good starter plant is the amazon sword, does good in lower lighting and is pretty hardy. We've had good luck with them in all of our planted tanks and have even had baby swords. The angels will like something tall to swim through, but not crowd, like a tall onion plant (which is what we have with our angels and they love to swim in and out of).

As far as cleaning, we just rinse under the faucet well w/luke warm water and check for any visible snails.
