I admittedly bought my FBF but the DIY PVC model you posted seems like a great project. My purchased FBF works great and I have no reason right now to replace it but after watching it run and understanding how it's functioning I think I could easily put the PVC one together and get it to work. Quite frankly it's a pretty straight forward when you think about it. I think the biggest trick would be to get the adjusted flow just right to not under float the sand....over floating is obvious....it goes into the tank. :duh:

yeah i decided on the acrylic version as i had some left over after making my wet dry tank. It has been interesting and it turns out im not that great at working with acrylic. i think im going to make a new one out of PVC. what kind of FBF do you have and what kind of pump do you have on it?

I run a Pentair Fluidized Bed Filter on my 55 gallon along with a Emporer 400. Since it's a cichlid tank I decided to go with maybe more filtration than necessary but I'm happy with the tank and once the FBF matured the water has been great. Very easy to maintain the tank. Interestingly it turns out the maker of my sand filter on my pool is the same company.....slightly larger version though. :)
