Well I looked in my sump today and I saw a lot of this milkish snot like substance inside the sump. I do have a refugium in the sump but the "snot" was not in that part it was in the section where the heater and return pump is. The "snot" is NOT in the main tank. I got out as much as I can, the rest is wrapped around the heater. I do have what I think is called a q-tip sponge invasion in my tank (i think that's what they are called? Very small white sponges). Could they be producing the "snot"? My water parameters are good so I know that they aren't responsible for the "snot". :help:

I'm still a relative noob when it comes to marine tanks, but I think I have the same Q-tip sponges that you mention. They are small white tufts that look like mini cotton balls. Are they harmful? I have a 75 with a humu trigger and a harlequin tusk. As with your tank, my water tests good.

yes, those are Q-tip spounges, And they cause no harm, just take in nutrients and will dwindle in numbers as your nutrient levels go down
as far as the snot, it sounds like another type of spounge, possibly form something decaying around the heater? Maybe there is not any flow there so it collected a bunch of crap? it is kinda like the same type of thing that covvers a shrimp when cycling your tank?

Well I don't know what it is but most of it is gone now.
