Hello, I have a tank with an UGF and a HOB at the moment. I want to convert my UGF to a RUGF but am unsure iF 2 Penguin 550's will do the trick. My main thing is do they work in a reverse mode or not. IF they do how do I set them up for reverse mode. I have read alot that the 1140 is good but also does that have a reverse. My main worry about the 1140 is that it may cause to much current for my tank as it is only a 20g. Any ideas would be great. Thanks.

I am not sure about the powerheads, but the first thing I would do is see if you can just change from a UGF to a RUGF. You may have to break down the UGF and clean it up first, I am not sure. What I do know is that the UGF collects a lot of crud under the bed and if you reverse it without cheaning it up it may blow all that crud into your tank.

Hello, I just put the UGF in a few days ago so I am not to worried about it being to dirty as of yet. I did end up going out and buying 2 Penguin 660R's for $19 each at my local PetSmart. I installed then and do see alittle bit of partical floating but my HOB should take care of them in the next day or so I hope. They are kinda big for my tank but I am planning to get a larger tank in the furure so I just went ahead and got them. They lined right up with the UGF tubes that are already in the tank. They are very quiet and the fish don't seem to mind them as of yet. My main worry was that my fish would get to much current but it seems to be just right.

Also if anyone knows, Can I use just the 660R's as the filter system or do I need to keep the old HOB on. I know if I do remove the HOB I should wait a few weeks but will new bactiria start to build on the Pre Filters that are with the 660R's. I have been watching and did notice that the pre filters are catching the small particals that are floating in the water. Thanks
