I'm so sorry to hear about your loss. You said that you think you should have seperated her. The tank that she was in were the other fish bothering her after she was done giving birth? Could there have been another reason for her demise? If you have another tank to keep fish in after an ordeal like this, it might not be a bad idea.
Please do not beat yourself up over this. We all make mistakes and that is how we learn from them.
Yeah, there was another male molly and he seemed pretty keen for some action while she was practically still giving birth. So, that wouldn't have helped. He's alone now with no other adult mollies.
When I found her dead in the morning, my CAE was pecking at her body. But I don't think he harassed her too much when she was living.
You're probably right, it happens. But at least her legacy lives on, she had 17 fry that are all going strong.

That's normal behavior for a male livebearer. They will follow her around while she is giving birth so that they can be the first to fertilize her when she is finished.
I'm sorry for your loss. We have lost 3 Platy mamas in our Livebearer tank shortly after giving birth. Others have been ok. We have 2 Dalmation Molly mamas ready to give birth but we do not intervene. Our Guppy mama has had fry twice now and both times she has been fine with no intervention. We like to let nature be the one to decide.
