hey guys,
well I cleaned my powerfilter, and my powerhead today for the first time in about 9 months and all I can say is WOW, I stripped them both right down and gave them a thourough cleaning and it made a HUGE difereance on flow rates, so if you don't already keep your filters clean from the inside out I would highly recomend it

Curious...if it has been 9 months since your last filter cleaning, what are your parametes on ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, pH and KH?

Have you been doing weekly water changes? of what per cent, or just topping off? Gravel vacumming?

What size tank is this?

oh yea, I replace my filter every 3-4 weeks, change 20% of the water twice a weak and vacume the gravel at the same time, I mean physically removing the filter unit, and cleaning out the build up from the inside, as well as taking out the impeller and cleaning off the gunk etc....

Do you just mean you clean the sponge every 3-4 week? When cleaning the filter whilst it is apart I would recomment you clean it all as a matter of course to keep the filter running efficiently.

They recomend that you pull the impellor out and clean it when you change the filter.
