I am picking up a 20 gallon tank on sunday and I am going to be fishles cycling it...

I just want to know how much pure amonia i am going to need to add to make it raise to around 5ppm?

I read the article on fishless cycling and it was very helpful on the actual methods but it never mentions how much amonia it is going to take to raise the amount to the proper measurements in specific tanks....

I dont want to have my amonia at 15 ppm and have it take a year to cycle....

any information is helpful... thank you....

It depends on how strong the concentration is of the ammonia that your using. Measure out a "safe" amount, and test the water. This will give you a place to start from. If this dosage gives you 1ppm, then you know to add 4 more.

If you accidentally add too much ou can always do a partial water change to remove the amount ammonia in the tank.

so would a safe amount be like a cup? or a teaspoon? or what?

I have a 30 gallon tank and I started my cycle last night. I started with a teaspoon and went from there. A cup is way too much. I ended up putting in between 3-4 teaspoons to get to about 4ppm-5ppm
